Counter Strike championship in linux internet cafe

Cyber games tournament is a wonderful possibility for internet cafe to get a lot of new games. In a comparison with other advertisement types championship is the best for a gaming club. It's a good idea to start clanwar and showmatch meetings in gaming center.

Idea to organize championship haunted me a lot of time. But I had a lot of questions and had no answers. How to start? Who will be a referee? How to avoid cheaters? How to make tournament honest and secure? What is the best prize for a gamer? How gamers will react to linux?

My decision was to anounce Counter Strike tournament. After that a lot of posters were printed on printer. For a free computer access I asked some young gamers to spread it out. All local forums and gaming networks were flooded with our anounce. My friends anounced championship on local CS servers. A lot of people were ready to help us. It was a cool event in cyber life of our town! A few people suggested to be a referee in the tournament.

I bought a domain www.informixclub.com for my new internet cafe and made PHP script for players registration. It was a good decision. There were preregistered 350 members for a 5x5 Counter Strike tournament using web form.

On the appointed day there was very bad weather. Only 180 players out of 350 pre-pregistered came to Counter-Strike championship.

Even the players are accustomed to the warmth of the weather conditions were not afraid and came to the championship.

Hall was instantly filled with gamers who have tried diskless linux, got acquainted and talked about Counter Strike.

It was a Counter-strike boom!

Qualified games began

There were 4 games simultaneously with 5x5 teams.

40 linux diskless stations made a load for my server. HLDS server were running on my XEON quad-core Intel server SR2520SAXR. Usual server state during tournament is 70-90% idle with full diskless internet cafe load. Also server was loaded with 4 hlds 11-slot servers.
